So...The Aaliyah Movie...

<Sigh> Ok, here's my thoughts on all the Aaliyah uproar... 1. Was it as bad as everyone is saying? It was about what you'd expect from Lifetime, the girl's voice wasn't comparable to Aaliyah's tone (even though she looked JUST like her in some of the profile shots, like in the studio), and Missy should've been bigger--that was part of her appeal early on. 2. Who should be blamed for the outcome? As much as I've loved them since I was a kid, I personally blame Timbaland and those closest to her for not putting up the money and taking control of things by making their OWN film first. It's easy to get mad at other people for bringing a less than satisfactory vision to the screen...but, you can't really say anything when you're who most people would agree is the authority on the subject, but you're not doing it yourself. 3. Would Beyoncé have been as big had Aaliyah not died? Well, Baby Girl did leave one hell of a void...and since y'all like to yell "conspiracy" and "Illuminati" so often when it comes to Jay and Bey, it was awful convenient that as soon as Aaliyah died, Jay and Bey hooked up and booted Damon Dash outta the industry. No one knows what could've been, but I definitely see Dame and Aaliyah being today what Jay and Bey became. 4. and R. Kelly? Nobody who followed Aaliyah's career was surprised that he peed on a kid, and nobody who knows about him peeing on people was surprised about he and Aaliyah's relationship. There.
